The Oyo State Government has signed a major agreement to strengthen its climate planning and policy framework, reinforcing its commitment to proactive environmental governance.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources on Thursday in Ibadan formalised a contract agreement with Noblesse Green Energy Limited, a company known for sustainable energy and environmental solutions.
The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, signed on behalf of the state government, while the Managing Director of the firm, Mr. Oluwasegun Ademuwagun, signed for the company at the Commissioner’s office.
Speaking after the ceremony, Aderinto described the climate policy initiative as more than a routine document, calling it a strategic roadmap for safeguarding the state’s ecosystem.
He explained that under the terms of the agreement, the contractor will develop and establish comprehensive Oyo State Climate Plans and Policies in line with approved specifications.
According to him, the firm will carry out climate-related assessments, data collection, stakeholder consultations and engagements, as well as design strategic climate policies aligned with national and international frameworks.
“The contractor will prepare detailed climate risk assessments, mitigation and adaptation strategies, and clear implementation frameworks to guide execution,” he said.
In his remarks, Ademuwagun assured the government of his company’s readiness to deliver a globally competitive policy framework that supports Oyo State’s environmental objectives
“We will produce practical and actionable plans covering climate risk, mitigation, adaptation and implementation to ensure measurable and sustainable outcomes,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Aderinto also reiterated the government’s resolve to deepen its waste-to-wealth agenda in line with circular economy principles during a courtesy visit by officials of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.
The delegation, led by Senior Advisor, Climate, Water and Food Facility (CWF), Ms. Jasmijn Snippe-Thissen, met with the Commissioner to explore potential areas of collaboration and exchange ideas on innovative environmental sustainability strategies.
Aderinto highlighted ongoing reforms and strengthened environmental policies designed to fully harness the state’s waste-to-wealth potential and promote a circular economy.
“Oyo State remains open to productive local and international partnerships that will drive innovation, technology transfer and capacity building in the environmental sector towards resolving waste management challenges,” he added.
He noted that the combined initiatives reflect the state government’s commitment to integrating local action with global collaboration to advance environmental sustainability, climate resilience and effective waste management.
