The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal flashpoints across the state.
In a statement signed by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Alfred Alabo, the suspects were arrested at Alheri, Apata, Busa-Buji, and Angwan Suya areas of Jos North local government area of the state at about 11:05 p.m.
He said the Police operatives recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp from the arrested persons during the raid.
The operation was aimed at restoring normalcy and forestalling attempts by criminal elements to exploit the prevailing security situation to cause unrest, Alabo said.
Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, described the raid as part of proactive measures to sustain law and order in the state.
He warned individuals or groups nursing plans to foment trouble to desist, assuring that the command would deal decisively with any offenders.
The police boss added that profiling of the suspects is ongoing, while further investigations would establish their involvement in criminal activities for prosecution where culpability is established.
To bolster security, operational and intelligence assets of the command have been deployed to strategic locations across the state to enhance police presence and reassure residents of their safety.
The command urged members of the public to support security efforts by volunteering timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies.
