The Member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Folajimi Oyekunle (DoN), has welcomed the recent judgment of the Oyo State High Court affirming the legitimacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention held in Ibadan.
Reacting to the ruling, Oyekunle described the verdict as a triumph for democracy and a boost for internal party stability. He noted that the decision reinforces the principles of fairness, due process, and inclusive political participation within the PDP.
The federal lawmaker stressed that Nigeria’s democratic growth depends on the existence of vibrant political parties, warning against the dangers of a one-party system. According to him, democracy flourishes where there is diversity of ideas, ideological balance, and effective institutional checks and balances.
“We cannot all align in the same political and ideological direction and expect optimal outcomes. For democracy to remain strong and progressive, there must be room for checks and balances,” he stated.
Oyekunle expressed optimism that pending judicial pronouncements would further consolidate the party’s position, adding that the PDP would remain steadfast in its commitment to the welfare and aspirations of the people.
He maintained that the court’s decision marks a significant step toward strengthening unity and democratic structures within the party, while reaffirming confidence in its resilience across Oyo State, particularly in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker urged party members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and hopeful, emphasising that democracy is best preserved when justice is pursued and upheld through lawful judicial processes.
