The Nigeria Police Force in Sokoto State has confirmed that one person was killed and five others abducted following an attack by suspected bandits on Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward of Kware Local Government Area.
The attack reportedly occurred on Saturday night when armed men stormed the village, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents.
Earlier reports circulating on social media had claimed that the attackers disguised themselves in women’s hijabs to evade suspicion before carrying out the assault. However, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, dismissed the claim, saying the assailants did not disguise themselves.
“The attack is true, but they didn’t disguise themselves. Five people were kidnapped, and one person was killed,” Rufai said.
He further disclosed that the abducted victims consist of three women and two men, adding that security operatives have launched efforts to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe return of the victims.
Sources in the area told our correspondent that the affected community, Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward, is located in Kware Local Government Area and not Rabah Local Government Area as earlier reported in some accounts.
Security agencies are said to have intensified patrols in the area following the incident, while investigations are ongoing.
The latest attack adds to the growing security concerns in several rural communities across Sokoto State, where residents have continued to face threats from armed groups involved in banditry and kidnapping. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security operatives.
