… Suspects commotance of culpable homicide
Yobe State Police Command has uncovered a shallow grave in Damaturu, suspected to be that of a person murdered by yet-to-be-identified persons.
The Command therefore strongly condemned the heinous act of suspected culpable homicide and informed the general public of the disturbing discovery.
According to the Command PPRO, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement he signed and made available to Journalists on Monday, “On 21st March 2026, at about 1410hrs, operatives of ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, discovered a shallow grave at Madinatu Alimarami Extension Ward, Damaturu.
The PPRO added that, “Earlier, at about 0900hrs the same day, a report was received regarding the discovery of a lifeless body of an unidentified person buried in a shallow grave, with both legs exposed and the body already in an advanced state of decomposition.”
The Police, in collaboration with medical personnel from General Hospital, Damaturu, visited the scene, while preliminary examination of the corpse revealed no visible signs of struggle or external physical injury.
However, tyre marks suspected to be that of a vehicle were observed at the scene, indicating that the corpse might have been transported and dumped at the location.
The body has been released to the community for proper burial. Despite the absence of visible injuries, foul play is strongly suspected, and a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify the deceased as well as trace and apprehend those responsible.
The Command urged members of the public who have reports of missing persons within Damaturu and its environs to visit ‘A’ Division or any nearest police station for possible identification.
The public is also encouraged to provide credible information that may assist in the ongoing investigation and lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The Command assured that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and assures the public that no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
