A Kano-based woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, has delivered quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, with the Kano State Government assuming full responsibility for the medical care of the newborns and their mother.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Na’isa.
According to the statement, the quintuplets—three boys and two girls—are currently receiving specialised medical attention alongside their mother at the hospital.
The husband, Salisu Nufi’u, a tricycle rider, said the birth marked his wife’s ninth delivery. He noted that her previous childbirth resulted in twins, adding that this is the first time she has delivered quintuplets.
Nufi’u expressed appreciation to the state government for its intervention, describing the support as timely and critical for his family.
“This support has come at a very critical moment for my family, and we are deeply grateful to the government,” he said.
The state government stated that the intervention aligns with its broader efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in Kano, particularly in maternal and child health services.
It reiterated its commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates while improving access to quality healthcare, especially for vulnerable populations.
“We will continue to support the general public, particularly the less privileged, to ensure they have access to quality healthcare services,” the statement added.
