A coalition of stakeholders in Enugu State has commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for what it described as impactful reforms and “unprecedented firsts” across critical sectors, noting that his administration’s performance is redefining governance and shaping political discourse in the state.
The group, Concerned Stakeholders for Good Governance, led by its convener, Mr Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., said the visible development across the state has shifted attention from political rhetoric to measurable outcomes.
Speaking in Enugu, Nwaokobia observed that opposition politics often gains traction in the face of governance failures, but noted that the situation in the state has changed due to deliberate and results-oriented leadership.
“Where governance is weak, opposition becomes stronger. But in Enugu today, governance is visible, structured and impactful. This has naturally influenced the tone of political engagement,” he said.
The stakeholders noted that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Mbah has prioritised execution and institutional reforms, with initiatives spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, and economic development.
They highlighted the establishment of a Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening security architecture and improving criminal justice delivery.
In the education sector, the group commended the construction of Smart Green Schools across the 260 political wards, describing the initiative as a comprehensive model for human capital development that integrates technology, innovation, and sustainability.
According to the group, the rollout of Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres in the wards is also expanding access to quality healthcare services, particularly for underserved communities.
On infrastructure, the stakeholders pointed to ongoing road construction, urban renewal programmes, and rural connectivity projects, which they said are enhancing mobility and supporting economic activities.
They further noted improvements in security through the deployment of surveillance systems, integrated command centres, and rapid-response mechanisms, which have strengthened coordination and public safety.
On economic development, the group said the administration is promoting a transition from dependence on federal allocations to a production-driven economy anchored on investment, enterprise, and industrial growth.
Agriculture, they added, is being repositioned through mechanisation and value-chain development to improve productivity, create jobs, and enhance food security.
Nwaokobia stated that the administration has also introduced a governance culture anchored on accountability, with clear timelines for project execution and continuous performance monitoring.
“Governance in Enugu is increasingly being defined by results. Citizens are now more focused on tangible outcomes, and this is raising expectations across board,” he said.
While acknowledging the importance of opposition in a democratic system, the group emphasised the need for constructive, evidence-based engagement.
The stakeholders maintained that the administration’s performance across sectors has not only accelerated development but also set new standards for governance in the state.
“The most sustainable response to opposition is performance, and that is what is evident in Enugu State today,” Nwaokobia added.
The group called for sustained support for ongoing reforms, noting that the current trajectory provides a strong foundation for long-term growth, stability, and inclusive development in the state.
