₦100M For Your Building Material, 25M Will Leave Your Account – Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has warned Nigerians about a tax policy that could hit wallets hard if implemented after the next elections.

According To NewsVista Reporter, speaking at a political rally broadcast on SYMFONI TV, Amaechi explained that under the proposed law, large payments would face automatic deductions. “If I pay you 100 million naira for building materials, then automatically 25 million will be deducted from your account,” he said, highlighting a potential 25 percent levy on high-value transactions.

He cautioned that this could trigger a chain reaction across the economy. Suppliers may raise prices, landlords could increase rents, and professionals such as doctors and artisans might hike their fees, ultimately affecting everyday citizens with higher living costs and school fees.

Amaechi suggested that political motives have delayed the policy, questioning why it was being postponed until after the elections, and urged Nigerians to verify the law themselves. He also encouraged voters to consider how financial and administrative policies could impact their daily lives when heading to the polls.
