Gunmen storm Ondo community, kill monarch

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Wednesday night stormed the Agamo community in Akure North local government area of Ondo State and killed the monarch of the community, the Alagamo of Agamoland, Oba Kehinde Falodun.

It was gathered that the gunmen, numbering six, attempted to abduct the monarch, who resisted the bandits and was shot several times in the process, but when the bullets failed to penetrate, they hacked him to death.

The monarch, known for his traditional power, succumbed to death in the early hours of Thursday from the injuries sustained at the hands of the bandits.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abayomi Jimoh, said the tragic incident occurred on 18th February, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., involving the killing of Oba Kehinde Falodun, the traditional ruler of Ahungha Village, Agamo Area.

Jimoh explained that the information received at the Division at about 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, indicated that approximately six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch

He said the armed men forcibly took the monarch from the palace and subsequently fled the scene, but said the monarch was later found a few metres away from the area, and was confirmed dead at the scene.

Jimoh said, “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, alongside command Tactical teams, promptly mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives, to comb adjoining bushes and surrounding areas in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.

He said, “Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Monitoring and surveillance activities have been intensified across the area to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further breakdown of law and order.”

The PPRO said the Command assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice.

He urged members of the public with credible and actionable information to report to the nearest police station or contact the Command.
