Aiyedatiwa commissions strategic roads in Oka, Owo LGAs

Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Friday commissioned two strategic road projects in Oka-Akoko and Owo Local Government Areas of the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal as a catalyst for economic growth, social integration and inclusive development.

The two projects, which include the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road in Akoko South-West and the Iselu–Isuada Road in Owo, were inaugurated as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the governor’s people-centred and development-driven administration.

Speaking at Oka-Akoko, Aiyedatiwa described the 6-kilometre Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road as a landmark project carefully designed and constructed with durable materials to withstand heavy-duty vehicular movement.

He noted that the road, executed at a multi-million-naira cost, conforms to global best practices and world-class standards, underscoring his administration’s resolve to deliver quality infrastructure across the state.

According to him, the project fulfils a promise made to the people during the electioneering campaign and reflects the mandate entrusted to his administration to improve the welfare of citizens.

The governor explained that the road serves as a critical transportation corridor in Akokoland, linking agrarian communities to key markets within and beyond the state.

He stressed that with the rich agricultural endowments of the Akoko axis, improving access roads became imperative to ensure the timely evacuation of farm produce and the preservation of their economic value.

“This project is not merely about asphalt and concrete; it is about prosperity, connectivity and shared progress,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also referenced the ongoing dualisation of the Akungba–Ikare Road, expressing optimism that the contractor would deliver the project within the stipulated timeframe, and assured residents that infrastructural expansion in the Akoko area remains a priority of his administration.

In Owo, the governor commissioned the rehabilitated Iselu–Isuada Road, describing it as a decisive intervention that has restored dignity and eased the long-standing hardship caused by years of deplorable road conditions.

He disclosed that since the inauguration of his administration, over 3.5 kilometres of road projects have been executed within the Owo axis alone, which include the construction and rehabilitation of Falodun Road, Kajola Road and Iselu–Isuada Road, among others.

The governor stated that the interventions have significantly enhanced connectivity, stimulated commercial activities, reduced travel time and improved access to critical areas within the ancient town.

He said, “Infrastructure remains the backbone of economic expansion, and we are deliberate in laying that foundation with foresight and diligence.”

Reaffirming his administration’s broader vision, Aiyedatiwa emphasised that development efforts would not be limited to specific zones, assuring that no community would be marginalised or neglected.

He said his governance philosophy, anchored on fairness, equity and shared prosperity under the OUR EASE policy thrust, continues to drive accelerated development across key sectors, including roads, education, healthcare, agriculture and commerce.

The governor stressed that his administration remains committed to constructive engagement with citizens, listening to their aspirations and partnering with communities to build a prosperous and harmonious Ondo State.

He said, “Our vision is clear — a state where opportunity is not a privilege of a few, but a right accessible to all; where infrastructure supports enterprise and governance inspires confidence.”

While celebrating the milestones, Aiyedatiwa urged residents to take ownership of the newly commissioned roads and ensure responsible usage.

He admonished motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and road signs in order to safeguard lives and preserve the longevity of the infrastructure.

He noted that the commissioning ceremonies symbolise not just the completion of physical projects, but the consolidation of promises kept and the steady march towards sustainable development.

As the administration marks its first year in office, the governor maintained that the tempo of development across the Sunshine State would continue to accelerate, with infrastructure serving as a foundation for economic transformation and an improved quality of life for all residents.
