Peaceful voting, tight security mar FCT council poll in Kuje

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election in Kuje was conducted under tight security on Saturday, with generally peaceful voting recorded across several polling units despite varying levels of voter turnout.

At Passali Polling Unit, residents were seen checking their names on the electoral register before proceeding to cast their votes. Electoral officials coordinated the accreditation and voting process in an orderly manner.

Similarly, at the Passali GSS Security Gate Polling Unit, the voting process remained organised as voters cast their ballots and exited the polling area promptly, allowing for a steady flow of participants.

At the Passali School for the Deaf Polling Unit, party agents were visibly present around the polling area, observing the exercise, while security personnel maintained law and order to ensure a smooth process.

Low turnout was recorded at Kauna Plaza Polling Unit in Kuje; however, the exercise remained peaceful, with security operatives stationed at the venue.

Meanwhile, at the Behind Area Council Secretariat Open Space Polling Unit, voting was described as seamless. Voters were accredited and proceeded to cast their ballots without disruption.

Across Kuje, authorities enforced vehicular movement restrictions as part of security measures for the election. Many businesses were shut down, and motorcycle operations were also restricted.

There was a heavy presence of security forces, including personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, deployed in parts of the area to ensure the safety of voters and electoral officials.

Overall, the poll in Kuje was largely peaceful, with security agencies playing a prominent role in maintaining order throughout the exercise.
