PDP pledges to rescue Lagos as Fawole becomes state chairman

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Amos Fawole, has pledged to reposition the opposition party in the state, declaring that Lagos is winnable with unity, discipline and strategic organisation.

Speaking at his inauguration in Lagos on Friday, Fawole described his emergence as more than a ceremonial transition, characterising it as a solemn covenant and a collective commitment to reawaken hope among residents and provide what he termed purposeful, people-centred politics.

According to him, the event marked a decisive step in the party’s shared resolve to free Lagos from political stagnation and challenge a style of governance he said has fallen short of public expectations.

He said the PDP under his leadership would present a credible and progressive alternative anchored on competence, inclusion, transparency and service.

Fawole paid tribute to the immediate past state executive committee for sustaining the party structure through what he described as difficult periods. However, he reminded members of the new executive that leadership comes with responsibility.

“This moment is both an honour and a burden,” he said.

“The people of Lagos are watching. Party faithful are expectant. The youths are impatient for opportunity. Women demand inclusion. Professionals seek policy clarity.”

He outlined a three-pronged task before the new leadership: rebuilding public trust, strengthening party structures from the ward to the state level, and uniting all tendencies within the party under a common vision.

The new chairman stressed that electoral success would depend less on rhetoric and more on organisational discipline and consistency.

“Rescuing Lagos is not about slogans; it is about organisation, discipline and consistency. It requires sacrifice from leaders and loyalty from members. It requires courage to speak truth and wisdom to build consensus,” he stated.

Fawole also assured leaders of the party in the South-West and at the national level of the Lagos PDP’s readiness to play a strategic role in strengthening the party’s regional and national standing.

He pledged collaboration to enhance the party’s influence beyond the state. Extending an olive branch to the media and civil society groups, he welcomed scrutiny, noting that democratic governance thrives on accountability.

To party members and supporters, he urged patience, unity and resilience, expressing confidence that a consolidated front could alter the political equation in the state.

“This inauguration is not an end. It is the beginning of renewed energy, disciplined politics and a Lagos where governance serves the people, not structures of privilege,” he said.

“Together, we will organise. Together, we will mobilise. Together, we will win.”
