The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, has assured residents of its commitment to securing the state for a resilient and sustainable future.
The assurance was given on Sunday by the Zamfara State Commandant, Sani Mustapha, at the state operations headquarters in Gusau, during the commemoration of International Civil Defence Day.
He described the day as one set aside globally to celebrate, reflect and strengthen efforts toward protecting lives and property, in line with the mandate of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO).
Mustapha noted that the NSCDC remains a critical component of national security, focused on safeguarding lives and property from both man-made and natural disasters.
He added that under the leadership of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the corps has adopted strategic preventive measures to identify, assess and coordinate responses to risks, ensuring public safety.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future,” the commandant said it reflects renewed efforts to align crisis management with environmental protection.
According to him, the NSCDC, in collaboration with the Zamfara Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency (ZEPEA), has implemented proactive measures including climate adaptation planning, ecosystem conservation to prevent erosion and flooding, waste and pollution reduction, promotion of renewable energy, and tree planting to mitigate environmental risks.
Mustapha maintained that the corps has demonstrated strong capacity in managing environmental risks and called for collective action.
“Together as stakeholders, we shall secure Zamfara State to a resilient and sustainable future,” he said.
