The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has celebrated Friday’s judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and publish his name as the party’s candidate for the June 20 governorship election.
The commission had in January, in its final list of candidates, excluded the PDP due to the lingering crisis at the national headquarters of the party.
However, Oluyede approached the court seeking an order of mandamus directing INEC to recognise and publish his name as the party’s flag bearer.
In a statement on Saturday, the medical practitioner described the court’s judgement on Friday as a victory for the people of the state.
Oluyede, in a statement issued through his media adviser, Gani Salau, noted that the verdict had further confirmed the expectations of the majority of voters in the state ahead of the June 20 poll.
He said, “This judgement is a welcome development and a victory for the people of Ekiti. We can now have more time to put everything together and focus on our campaign.
“I can assure the people of Ekiti that our campaign will be issue-based and centred on what I have to offer in transforming our dear state for the betterment of everyone. At the same time, we will make things different from the Oyebanji government.”
He commended the people of the state for the show of love, solidarity and support, urging them to translate it into reality by voting for him and the Peoples Democratic Party in the June 20 governorship election.
