Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, has shared his views on the use of unconventional promotional strategies, such as dancing, to market films in Nigeria.
Speaking on TVC News, Kosoko said that although the method delivers results, it is not the most effective way to promote movies.
He pointed out that there should be a more structured approach to marketing films in the industry.
“There is nothing bad about that style for her, but I’m telling you it is not the best. There should be a more organised way of promoting our movies,” he opined.
Referring to actress Funke Akindele, Kosovo noted that her approach has worked and attracted attention.
He explained that since promotion is aimed at generating returns, the strategy can be seen as practical within the Nigerian entertainment space.
“Funke thought it was wise to do something that could bring attention, and she did it. And it’s working for her and a lot of us, too. At the end of the day, what you are looking for is returns,” he added.
The veteran actor further explained that the Nigerian context differs from what is seen in other parts of the world, where such promotional styles are less common.
Kosoko emphasised this difference, saying, “I’ve travelled a lot, and I know that people elsewhere, even actors, don’t dance about their movies. That is not the standard. But unfortunately, our environment is different.”
