Residents of Ayetoro and Imasayi communities in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun, on Saturday, received free medical services with the aim of building healthy societies.
The health programme, tagged “Eto Ilera Yayi,” was the brainchild of Barrister Mrs Titi Fagbote, a proud daughter of Ayetoro, who hinted that the purpose of the outreach was part of her resolve to give back to the people, as well as supporting the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola in 2027.
Speaking with newsmen during the programme, Mrs. Fagbote said she was motivated to embark on the programme basically to improve the living conditions of the people in Isokan 1 State Constituency.
She said, “As you know, a healthy life is one of the conditions of a good life. We have introduced this programme to provide free medical check-ups, treatment, and medicines to men and women in the Yewa North Local Government Area. If necessary, individuals will also be referred to a State hospital for further attention.”
On why the programme was tagged “Eto Ilera Yayi”, she said she is an ardent follower of Senator Adeola, because she was inspired by the lawmaker’s commitment to making lives more meaningful for the people.
“I am a follower of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, a.k.a. Yayi. I am unrepentantly his protégé. He has inspired me by his demonstrated commitment to making lives better for the people in the whole of Ogun West and Ogun State in general. How can a person follow Yayi and not think like him? So, when I conceived this idea, I felt that the best way to remain inspired is to christen it after my mentor and political leader, Yayi,” she added.
She explained that the programme provided opportunities for the beneficiaries to get their blood samples checked for glucose levels, blood pressure, and urine tests, among others.
“We planned to provide free medical care for less than 400 people, both at Ayetoro and Imasayi. However, our people were just trooping in in their numbers, and we can ask them to go back. We decided to increase the number and ensure a quite large number of people benefit from this noble idea.”
She hinted that plans are underway to reach out to other communities in the council area, saying “my Principal taught me not to look after myself alone but everyone around me. The lesson I learnt from him is that you must take care of all the people and not just a few ones.”
Asked if she is doing this because of any political ambition, Fagbote said she hoped and prayed to represent her people in the State House of Assembly in 2027, but she cannot publicly declare this because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not given guidelines on the commencement of political campaigns.
