Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Wednesday led leaders and delegates from the North Central geopolitical zone to formally endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election.
Akume made the declaration in Lafia, Nasarawa State, during the APC North Central Zonal Congress, where governors, former governors, legislators, ministers, and other key stakeholders gathered to deliberate on the party’s future in the region.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, the motion for Tinubu’s adoption as the party’s sole candidate was moved by Akume and seconded by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, receiving a thunderous voice vote from all delegates present.
The congress drew an impressive attendance, including all North Central governors, several former governors and deputies, serving National and State Assembly members, ministers, and other prominent political figures from across the zone.
In his address, Akume said the endorsement reflected the deep confidence the region has in President Tinubu’s leadership and his administration’s ongoing efforts to stabilise and reposition Nigeria.
He noted that, as the leader of the APC in the North Central, he bears the responsibility of ensuring unity, coordination, and strategic alignment among party stakeholders.
He reaffirmed the zone’s commitment to the core ideals of the APC and its unwavering support for policies promoting economic recovery, infrastructure expansion, and national cohesion.
Akume urged party members across North Central states to close ranks, avoid divisions, and work collectively to consolidate the party’s achievements as preparations for the 2027 polls intensify.
He stressed that an early consensus on President Tinubu’s candidacy would give the APC a strategic head start, allowing the government to remain focused on governance and service delivery.
He also assured that the North Central region would deliver the highest number of votes for President Tinubu among all six geopolitical zones during the 2027 presidential election.
His words: “The North Central has done so much for this country to preserve its unity. Nigerians are proud of you, and we must be proud of ourselves.
“Our governors and ministers are performing exceptionally. With the politicians I’ve seen here today, North Central will provide the highest number of votes among the six geopolitical zones.”
The endorsement received loud applause and widespread approval from delegates, who described it as a decisive step towards maintaining party stability, strengthening internal cohesion, and ensuring continuity in national leadership.
