Move to Iwo Road bus terminal, Oyo govt tells motorists, traders

Oyo State Government has issued a firm directive mandating all motorists and traders currently operating along major road corridors around Iwo Road in Ibadan to immediately vacate those areas and relocate their activities to the officially designated Iwo Road Bus Terminal.

The order, conveyed through the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), follows growing concerns over the resurgence of roadside trading, indiscriminate parking, and unauthorized loading of passengers, activities that have increasingly disrupted traffic flow and posed serious safety risks within the busy Iwo Road axis.

OYRTMA Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), made this known during an enforcement and inspection exercise at the Iwo Road Bus Terminal. During the visit, he expressed dissatisfaction that despite the availability of a well-structured and government-provided facility, many transport operators and traders had abandoned the terminal in favor of operating along the roadside.

According to him, such practices not only undermine the purpose of the terminal but also contribute significantly to traffic congestion and heighten the risk of road accidents, as they obstruct free vehicular movement and reduce available road space.

Major Adesagba stressed that the government invested in the terminal to create an organized, safe, and efficient transport system, and therefore will not condone actions that negate these efforts.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Oyo State Government to ensuring orderliness, public safety, and effective traffic management across Ibadan, warning that strict enforcement measures will be sustained. He added that any individual or group found flouting the directive going forward would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing traffic and environmental regulations.
