After spending two days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the immediate past Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, was on Wednesday detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai was detained in Abuja by EFCC on Monday after he honoured an invitation sent to him by the commission over ongoing investigations based on a petition filed by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
ICPC spokesperson, John Okor Odey, in a press release he signed and made available to journalists in Abuja last night, informed that as of close of work on Wednesday, the former governor was in the custody of the anti-graft agency.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State is in our custody as at close of work today, Wednesday the 18th day of February, 2026.
“Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with investigations,” Odey stated in the terse release.
Though he did not reveal the nature of the investigations, Tribune Online gathered that it might not be unconnected with the failed Kaduna light rail project.
