Kano gov applauds INEC, security agencies for peaceful by-election

Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the recent by-election in the state.

According to him, the by-election marked a departure from previous experiences in the state.

“For the first time in recent history, we witnessed an election in Kano free of crisis, violence and manipulation. This development aligns with our Kano First Agenda. The era of killing, maiming and disenfranchising voters is over,” the governor stated.

The governor’s commendation was contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, in Kano.

Governor Yusuf described the exercise as a significant milestone in Kano’s democratic development, noting that the calm atmosphere recorded across polling units reflected both the political maturity of the electorate and the effectiveness of security arrangements put in place for the election.

The by-election was held in Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Assembly Constituencies.

He particularly appreciated voters in the affected constituencies for their discipline, cooperation and commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

The governor also lauded political parties and stakeholders, especially members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for adhering to electoral guidelines and refraining from actions that could have undermined the credibility of the poll.

Governor Yusuf noted that the peaceful conduct of the by-election demonstrates Kano State’s readiness to embrace issue-based politics founded on dialogue, tolerance and respect for democratic values.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, irrespective of political or religious affiliations.

The governor further pledged sustained collaboration with INEC and security agencies to ensure that future elections in Kano remain transparent, credible and violence-free.
