The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has confirmed a power outage in parts of Lagos following a fire incident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
According to the company, the disruption was caused by a collision between a vehicle and a stationary gas tanker, which sparked a fire that severely damaged the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders.
Critical conductors and overhead line equipment were affected, cutting electricity to several communities.
“Please be informed that the current power outage was caused by a fire incident that occurred last night following a vehicle collision with a stationary gas tanker,” EKEDC said in a statement.
“The resulting fire led to significant damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including critical conductors and overhead line equipment.
“Our technical team is working diligently to replace the damaged components and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
The affected areas include Medallion Feeder (including Medallion Company), Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan, all connected to the Ibeju 33kV feeder.
The outage follows a tragic gas explosion in the Ajah area earlier Saturday, which claimed two lives and destroyed warehouses and roadside shops near Tera Ahmed bus stop, Sangotedo.
Residents in the impacted communities have been urged to exercise caution while EKEDC works to restore electricity safely.
